Looking for a childcare apprenticeship? Not sure of how to write a course application statement? Here are some helpful tips on how to successfully apply for a childcare apprenticeship.

  1. Check the National Apprenticeship Service regularly as most apprenticeships will be advertised on there.
  2. Make sure your CV and course application statement includes information about why you would like to work with children. By showing enthusiasm in the career path, you are more likely to be considered by employers.
  3. Make sure that you add as much information about your past work experience, placements, and volunteer work so the recruiters are fully aware of your background. You should also describe the skills and knowledge you have gained from these experiences and how this will benefit you in your future position.
  4. Do some research on key policies in childcare to show you are up to date with legislation and guidance.
  5. Be clear and honest about what you are looking for in a role. For example, you may want to consider the location of the setting if you cannot drive and are looking for somewhere local. This means that the recruiter can find the perfect job for you.
  6. Be prepared to talk on the phone with your recruiter regarding vacancies, interviews and job offers. It is important to get back to your recruiter as soon as you can as well as let them know if you are unable to attend an interview as soon as possible and they may be able to reschedule for you.
  7. Before your interview, prepare some answers to questions to help you feel more at ease during the interview. It may also be useful to do some research about the setting to show your interest in the role.
  8. During your interview, make sure that you turn up on time, dress smartly and have your phone on silent.
  9. Don’t feel discouraged if you do not get an apprenticeship after the first one you apply for. Use each interview as a learning curve to help you prepare for the next one.
