Safer Internet Day 2026
Safer Internet Day takes place on the 10th February 2026 and is an international event dedicated to promoting the safe and responsible use of the internet. This day aims to educate, raise awareness and make the internet a safer place for everyone, particularly children and young people. Whilst the internet offers many benefits, it also has many risks, such as cyber-bullying, fraud and access to dangerous material.
The day is observed in many countries (around 170+) with events, campaigns and activities that promote online safety. Many online organisations provide free educational resources tailored to different ages. Parents, carers, teachers, policymakers and tech users are encouraged to engage in discussions and events about digital wellbeing and responsible tech use.
This year the theme is ‘Smart tech, safe choices – Exploring the safe and responsible use of AI’. This theme aims to explore the impact that AI has on our lives and provide guidance on how to use AI safely and responsibly. It focusses on recognising both the benefits and risks of AI and ensuring that children and young people are equipped with the skills, knowledge and confidence to make safe choices.
This day is a reminder that the responsibility for online safety lies with each one of us. It is important that we educate ourselves, engage in conversations, and stay informed so we can contribute to a safer and more responsible internet for everyone.
