Statement on Changes to Apprenticeship Funding Rules – Functional Skills Requirements for 19+ Learners
Under the updated ESFA Apprenticeship Funding rules, new and existing apprentices aged 19+ at the beginning of their Apprenticeship programme are no longer required to achieve Functional Skills qualifications as part of their apprenticeship. Learners will still have the opportunity to develop their core skills in English and Maths, however, it will be their choice whether or not they want to sit exams.
This is an exciting update and we recognise that removing the Functional Skills requirement is a fantastic opportunity for all those potential learners previously put off by having to complete English and Maths to achieve their qualification.
Please note that these changes do not apply to apprentices aged 16-18, for whom the existing Functional Skills requirements remain unchanged.
This will be incredibly popular, therefore, if you, or any colleagues, are interested in the new apprenticeship standard (at levels 2, 3 or 5), don’t hesitate to contact us for further information.
