Your mental health is just as important as your physical health. If you are not mentally healthy you are less likely to work as productively and more likely to suffer from other issues besides poor mental health. That is why it is important that you know how to look after and promote positive mental health. There are many organisations and resources available to those suffering from mental health problems but wading through all that information can be a daunting task.     • Take some time to focus on someone else for a few minutes

    • Walk or cycle to work
    • Get off the bus a few stops early and walk the rest of the way

    • Go for a swim
    • Take this time to focus on how your body feels when exercising
  • Take notice
    • Ask how someone is feeling and really take the time to listen
    • Take a different route to work
    • Have breakfast outside and listen to the world around you
  • Learn
    • Do a crossword or a sudoku
    • Learn a new skill/hobby
    • Read a book
  • Give
    • Donate to a charity
    • Help a person in need
    • Help with a fundraiser
    • Be present in your community

There are also different foods and vitamins that can promote positive mental health such as bananas, berries, salmon, food that is high in iron or vitamin B. Making good dietary choices can be a big step in the right direction to positive mental health but don’t worry if you can only make one or two changes at a time. It can be exhausting making dramatic changes and so even making one change is a step in the right direction and something to be proud of. Never underestimate the power of talking to someone, even if you feel you can’t talk to someone you know there are other organisations that you can talk to such as:
